OUR HISTORY

The RUM Racing Baja project gives students from all the engineering fields the opportunity to stand out by improving their personal, professional and academic abilities. The project has obtained various prizes and recognition throughout their outstanding performance in previous competitions.

  • 1979- Designed and constructed the first “Mini Baja Hispanic Amphibian”

  • 1997- They received a 4th place award in Design Category in Mini Midwest Baja at Ohio.

  • 1998- First team composed mainly by women to design this type of vehicle. The awards were: 1st place in Appearance, Feasibility of mass production, Originality and Cost Report; 3rd place in Design Report and 5th place in Braking. The team was Recognized by the House of Representative of Puerto Rico and by SAE “Women Leadership Challenge”, “Brooks Stevens Design”.

  • 2000- Participated in competition SAE Mini Midwest Baja at Milwaukee. The awards received were 2nd place in Appearance and 11th place in Cost Report, also they won 2nd place in the competition COINAR 2000 Supported by the CIAPR (Colegio de Ingenieros y Agrimensores de Puerto Rico).

  • 2014- The team celebrated 35 years of foundation, representing UPRM at Kansas and Texas.

  • 2017- The team represented UPRM in the competition at California.

  • 2018- The team represented UPRM in the Collegiate Design Series in Oregon.
